Solved Xorg died

During the day today for no apparent reason, X started giving a black screen after startx. Error at console is

failed to set  mtrr: invalid argument.

Latest nvidia driver from ports, card is fine, same behavior with 2 different cards. Nuked /usr/local and rebuilt X and nvidia, same error. Loading

nvidia-modeset

in /boot/loader.conf. Worked great this morning, only thing I did was update the ports tree and portmaster -aDy after that. Not sure what was updated, can't remember sorry.

Not sure what was updated, can't remember sorry.

pkg query %n\ %v\ %t outputs the installed stuff with a time stamp when it was installed. If this does not help a look at /var/cache/pkg or so could give some information. Good luck!

Odd, deleted .xinitrc, X works fine. Oh well.

Error at console is

Ignore it. I get the error too. Everything works regardless of this "error".
