Which attributes make you a better developer or system-administrator

I'm not looking for Known Human-Resource answers but maybe more down to earth.
You learned some things, and learned some ways of looking at things are better than others.
Which where they and why ?
Me i learned "exactness" , "patience", "take different sources to increase knowledge".

A touch of OCD (to make sure everything is done properly and correctly) and a bit of AD/HD to deal with stressful situations (we thrive in chaos, we live in it 24/7). It also helps to be able to hyper-focus on issues and getting to understand the underlying causes.

SirDice AD/HD and OCD? That is a pure pain combo.
But what do you really want? What makes you a good admin or what makes you being hired by some HR crews?

I'm a better developer because I am more interested in creativity and artistry...and I have random thoughts about systems as a canvas and software/firmware as the paint.

I'm not customer focused, in the way that management wants admins to be...and I avoid getting into development projects that are customer driven feature sets, but prefer "Here is a broad idea of what we would like to do. Come up with a way to do it that is efficient, reliable, and scalable"

Avoiding the internet as much as possible. Only use it to find documentation. Read the documentation and only papers from proven good sources. Ignore publications for the most part. They are only good for introducing you to new things in development but not how to use them. Ignore all social media--especially reddit.

Strive to be happy.

Salvation through suffering has been a constant theme from the very beginnings of Unix. Ritchie and Thompson mention it in their seminal paper.

When I started on Unix in earnest in 1983, the nearest support was 9,607 miles away in New Jersey -- by telex!

Knowing that the buck stops with you is a powerful motivator to accept responsibility.

Curiosity and stubbornness (as applied to not giving up on learning how stuff works and getting stuff to work)
