What hobby do you spend money on ?

BTW; I am wearing Omicron Swiss made (classic) watch which I got for my 18th birthday and I am retired now
I wear my grandfather's watch (he gave it to me when I was 13). It's from 1936, a trophy; he brought it back from the war...

Watches, nonbattery ones. A huge rabbit hole. I find it fascinating watching you tube stuff of people repairing these; all the different gears and such: they are analog computers

Bought some other books,
- Impractical python projects
- Get programming with F#
- The fundamental edge with F#
- F# intermediate guide
- F# in action

I don't wear a watch. For me, that's a luxury. Time pressure is inhuman.
just because one wears a watch does not mean one has to look at it :)
In fact if one is lost in a survival situation, an analog watch can help determine direction. Direction can lead to "walk this way to safety" so, wear it, keep it on time, but don't look at it.

Bought two physics books, reviving my youth ,

This watch
Casio F-91W, is one of the classics. It was one of the better first mass produced electronic quarz-watches widely affordable. When it appeared in the late 80s(?) it was a symbol for real nerds.

Remarkable to me is that Brian Kernighan wears one. (In videos with him look closely at his watch.)
You see, BK may be no billionaire, but he is for sure not a poor guy. For sure he earned good wages for all the jobs he did, and do. Just for "The C Programming Language", of which millions of copies are sold, I guess in theory he easily could afford a Rolex. But he wears a supermarket watch for a few bucks.
Because it's battery powered electronic quarz driven it's more precise a than any mechanical watch can ever be.
This watch does exactly what a watch is for: tell time, and date (and I think it comes with a stopwatch, too.) Plus you don't need to bother of anything, besides to replace the battery every couple of years:
You will not be robbed for it, you don't need to worry about if it gets stolen, you lose, or break it. If so, you just get in the next shop, and simply buy a new one.
Brian Kernighan does not need to show off.
I find that impressive exemplary.

Running! It shouldn't be that expensive, but I spend money on races, travel to races, running shoes (trail, everyday, race, snow), clothes (layers for cold, wind, rain, heat,..), anything purple related to running. Now, I'm looking into race snowshoes, because my trail running buddy wants me to do that with her.

Shoes wearing off... I know it.

Was in a neighborhood near me and an older gentleman had his garage door open. I asked, "Which is older? He or the car?" It was a 1926 Chevrolet something, he said. Looks like a Ford Model T. And it runs!

He said he takes it out every so often but something always breaks. Then he fixes it only to have something else break.

When I was 16 or so, I wanted my parents to buy a Model T I found to put in the garage that I could work on but they wouldn't do it. I'm not a car guy now but I think I would have really enjoyed that.

Me too. Mines,

In hoogte verstelbaar,
