What hobby do you spend money on ?

You may already be fully aware of that, but historical european tractors are also interesting, and there are also many enthusiasts and gatherings for those over here.
Lanz Bulldog, Deutz, Hanomag, Porsche, Lamborghini just to name some.
Search for the Lanz Dampfross (steam horse), and if you have need for some garden ornaments you could collect old matching plough from the same time...

Maybe a bit outside the expected for someplace like this:
Fly Fishing. More specifically bamboo fly rods, tying flies and fishing them.

You talk about the perfect keyboard?
How about searching for the perfect Dun dry fly hackle?

Hello Alice, may I join you in this rabbit hole?
Oh, another fly fisherman! I very much plan to invest in a split cane rod when the kids are grown. They seem to have risen in price quite a bit since I was a teenager.

In Germany they have a snappy saying "Suche Angel, möglichst teuer".

It's a satire of having a gearslutting hobby. It emulates a classified ad saying "looking for fishing rod, as expensive as possible". You particularly say that when you are frustrated with your different hobby and want to throw in the towel.

Nice. Sounds almost like people "if I only had the perfect rod I would have caught that fish" or "the right lens/camera/car/whatever".

That's the thing about hobbies; sometimes they wind up "pursuit of the perfect gear" instead of "existing in the moment of doing the thing".

If I had the perfect PC hardware capable of handling any game, I wouldn't know how to optimize things so well

Finding better ways to run software can be a hobby! It's free, and there's no end of adventures to explore (I'm currently testing 2025 vs 2018 pre-MFG BIOS :p)

I spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, music instruments and camera equipment.
The rest I just wasted.

The latest is a new Nashville Telecaster.
Getting back into live performing again, and have to step up as a solo artist.
Needed the guitar... normally play keys, bass and banjo.
Have not played lead guitar since the 70s...

Not hobbies only. Whole industries are built on that belief: sports equipement, tools, cars, kitchen equipment, fashion... younameit
Besides envy that's why there is always something can be found cost more.
"If daddy cannot swim it's the speedo's fault."

Good luck then. I found out decades ago there is no such thing as the perfect PC, 'cause it's not the hardware. 😁

interesting to read this thread!
my first thought was also, as cracauer@, to think that i sort of gave up buying too much physical things (not that i buy lots of digital services)... but...

i spend money in food (making stuff out of non processed goods) and good drinks (mostly craft beer, wines (hey i'm french!!) and whisky (scotch, bourbon and some japanese and french/local, no rye)
and but so...
for more "lasting things": quite some books and LPs (i started buying physical music again some years ago, before i had a spell when i was unfortunately too broke to not "acquire it" by other more dubious means).
at some point in life i had up to 70 old film cameras, either in working order or for spare parts for the ones in working order (i used to be a professional photo-reporter). i thing i still have maybe 20, the rest i gave away of other enthusiasts during different movings.
i also have a gravel bike to exercise (not an expensive one but not a cheapo one either) and a small 125cc motorbike to go get bread (and not carry around 1+ ton of metal for a piece of bread, i live in the countryside and one needs a car for most things)

and a bit of it/electronics tinkering, i built an arcade cabinet with retropie and a lot of spare wood, a spare old cathodic tube screen (weights as much as a dead donkey) and lots of spare time during covid. currently gathering spare stuff to make a "cyberdeck"
i guess my first thought was dead wrong :(

Fyi,
I create a gerber file and let them build by a Chinese PCB company.
I don't play no more with U.V.

I use KiCad too, and JLCPCB to make the boards. This is my GitHub - not much there at the moment, but I’m working on it! 😊
