VT_GETMODE failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Can anyone provide a pointer towards sorting out the above problem?

Is it related to a video driver?

I'm running 13.2-R on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1.
 
I am also getting similar errors, typically either with a SIGBUS or, if I run console-kit-daemon with --debug, SIGTRAP.

I can reproduce them using "switch user" on lightdm most of the time, but not always.

I've been working with jsm in the Discord #desktop channel, feel free to jump in over there.
