URGENT - NVIDIA - REL15.0: 580.119.02_1 of nvidia driver/drm61/kmod - ARE KNOWN BROKEN

Again, 580.119.02 and later are known to fix different issues for others. So rolling back official ports tree is NOT an option. Fix by rolling back for you means breakages for others.

Fair enough... I LEARNED the last time this happened :-)...

Good luck with that !

Any updates to fix this nvidia driver issue?
I'm on 14.3-p8, nvidia-driver 580-119-02_1, and xfce.
The flickering issue is very annoying, especially when a terminal window is over a webpage. There is mouse pointer issue as well.

Unfortutately, not yet.

But nvidia releases updated version of their drivers almost monthly (whichever Production Branch or New Feature Branch).
I'll file a PR (with opening review) ASAP once I find the update is released.
Stay tuned on Bugzilla (search keyword "nvidia"). And it's the only thing I can do for the issue.

If you're currently using picom in conjunction with other WMs but it's not mandatory for you, try disabling picom possibly help.

Another option could be trying compiz instead.
I'm using compiz (actually, compiz-reloade maintained by Ken DEGUCHI as overlay) in conjunction with Mate DE (in-tree version) without tearing issues or mouse issues.

Same problem here. Known workaround is to disable the display compositor into windows settings (sorry, as I'm French, I don't have the exact corresponding strings). This will disable any transparency effect but no flickering anymore.
AFAIK it is stated on some other forum (Arch Linux one if I remember) that it comes from nvidia-driver, so full proprietary stuff, and not solved in the last versions. I guess an AI did the work, and NVIDIA waits for another AI to fix this...

Isn't it this thread at nvidia developer forum?
And not yet found any new version released at the moment I'm writing this.

picom & nvidia can give problems on freebsd & linux.
For freebsd & linux-redcore & linux-artix , i have now composition working 100% stable using :
- mate-desktop
- mate-tweak -> xrender.
- FreeBSD (kernel, 15.0-RELEASE-p1) , Linux ( LTS-kernel)
[Note 1 : Mate is more stable than openbox ]
[Note 2 : On linux xcompmgr was also a working alternative for picom]

Also, Mate DE + Compiz on FreeBSD is stable, too.
Not all of Compton based compositors are affected.

I found it, it was that one :

Their answers are to disable compositor or reverse to a very old driver version - which is not a goog idea...
Strange thing, one of the last messages of the thread says it happens on AMD.

Just to be sure, does the situation changes if you flip Sync to VBlank with x11/nvidia-settings?
Wouldn't help for flickering, but could make differences in tearing.

Not a solution , but it's worth to try mate & mate-tweak. For me this works best.
As compositor you can also disable xfce4 one and try to use picom, this might? work.
