Why should kernel be corrupted as soon as I edit loader conf or restore backup via cp *conf in /etc/ and /usr/local/etc.
Once I do any of these, freebsd-version -kur reports 'unable to locate kernel'. Then I have to do fresh install again; custom build won't fix it and so is freebsd-update. The system works until I reboot then it drops to terminal requesting VFS.mountroot.from but nothing works.
This is driving me nuts for days. I cannot restore my backup. I thought 'CP loader.conf to overwrite old loader conf' was the culprit. But no! A simple edit crashes the system and the same goes for overwriting conf files in those locations.
