bhyve Unable to break out of ping using <ctrl>-C on vncviewer linux console

I have a Byhve VM running Rocky Linux (RL) 8.6 on FreeBSd-12.3p5. When I connect via vncviewer and run ping 192.168.216.1 I cannot break out of the command using <ctrl>-C. If I connect via a serial console then <ctrl>-C works to break out of ping.

Is this a bug or limitation in vncviewer or with bhyve
