Tint2 in the future

I recently installed a VM of FreeBSD-16-CURRENT, and found there was no tint2. Due to other issues, I've not been able to update ports in CURRENT, so, as the concept works in Fedora Linux, where I've been using tint2 from F39 in later versions, including F43, thought I'd try the same sort of thing here. I did pkg create tint2 in FreeBSD-15 (there ya go, I included FreeBSD-15 for relevance) scp'd the pkg over to the CURRENT VM and did pkg install of the pkg. It installed and ran without problems. (Fedora's last rpm of tint2 was from F39, but whether one grabs the old RPM, or updates an existing install, tint2 keeps on working.)

I found this interesting, as well as a possible solution in case tint2 is not upgraded in the next iteration of FreeBSD, so figured I'd post it. I don't feel too badly about mentioning CURRENT, as I'm not asking for help, and the information might be useful, though last I looked FreeBSD-16-RELEASE isn't out till December 2027. Anyway I do think there are lots of us who want to stick with X over Wayland, and of those people I'm sure I'm not the only one using openbox who prefers tint2 as their status bar. I may also drop an email to maintainer, who I'm sure has nothing better to do than read my emails. :)

I sincerely (and I'm not being sarcastic) apologize to anyone who really gets upset about me mentioning an issue with CURRENT here, but I've stated my reasons, I think it may be useful as time passes.

Yes, I have seen that it's been frozen. I'm surprised that there seem to be few replacements. (I haven't found one that worked well for me). Of course, there is fluxbox with its built-in bar, but I've preferred openbox for years. If I do come across a good panel I will let the forums know. As it's worked fine for me I haven't looked for forks for years.

Once I use
x11/lxpanel it works but I didn't like it (possible because I am using tint too long).

I congratulate the tint2 developers. They have created the perfect bar.

I have no bugs with it and can find none. I simply turn off #time2

The code is frozen and no more feature requests are accepted.
Amen brothers. No need for feature creep. It works very well.
Just like OpenBox. Take it or leave it.

I use jg-menu with tint2 on some machines. It seems redundant but I like the windows style start menus instead of cde right click.
