Tinc VPN - does anyone use it? Alternative to Tail scale? Difficulties getting it to work...

Greetings.
Does anyone out there use Tinc?
If you do, is it a good option as a mesh VPN to replace Tail scale?
If you do, are there some tricks getting it to work?
I lost many hours following the instructions on the Tinc project website, to no avail, I couldn't get it to work.
If anyone out there has a version of their instructions that could work for FreeBSD and could share them, it would be appreciated.

I used it but switched to p2p openvpn. Forgetting why.

Wireguard is a bit more practical than either.
