The best GPU for the build

So i'm gonna build dedicated computer just for using FreeBSD as a main home computer. I wonder which is the best GPU possible for it to run smoothly. I had a nvidia 4060 and had nothing bot trouble. It was stuttering and sound was a mess. So i'd look to use something different. I dont care about performance since it's gonna be used only for normal everyday use. I need it to run smooth as butter.

Currently using radeon 9070xt since it's not supported yet im forced to be using Linux Void.

What do you want to do with your computer?
My i5-1334U's small GPU is great for many tasks. Almost for modeling with Blender. Too slow for texturing/rendering...
I've worked as 3d artist in the archiviz with a RX 5600 without any problem.

I have Nvidia, Radeon, and iGPU systems. They all work rather nicely with FreeBSD. But the machine that I use the most uses the RX 6400. It's super low power and works nicely with Wayland. And it can game on new titles which is nice. :D

GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics [Integrated],
15.0-RELEASE-p1

The best graphical benchmark for me is vertical scrolling in Firefox. In Wayland it smooth but in X is not. I use only Wayland compositors (sway currently) because of that.

Everything but gaming, office work, videos, browsing, youtube,....

How exactly the sound was a mess with Nvidia? I've yet to see a single complaint about quality of its HDMI/DisplayPort sound output.

This was my problem. And this is keeping me away from FBSD.

Weird, sounds like a grounding issue when working with sound hardware. I've had that with bad power supply or bad caps on a motherboard too. But since this is a reproducible error it just makes it strange. Sounds like some kind of audio sampling rate issue with buffering in the hardware audio processor.

Try this:

Code:

Code:
sudo sysrc sndiod_enable="YES"<br>sudo sysrc sndiod_flags="-r 44100"

Code:

Code:
sudo vi /etc/rc.conf

Code:

Code:
sndiod_enable="YES"<br>sndiod_flags="-r 44100"

reboot for good measure

yup tried even that. and the thing is when i'm using a sound device, for example watching youtube, whenever i move something on the desktop sound crackles, even if i just change the volume it crackles. does that everywhere, kde, gnome, xfce,...

i've ordered some older supported radeon card and gonna try that, because even on linux, nvidia wasn't smooth.

bamy88 have you tried an external audio interface? If that's all that keeps you away from what you want.

OT: I personally would avoid nvidia and go for AMD or Intel. IMHO a nvidia card is asking for trouble. Dropped support of old cards on Linux is a recent one. (Thoud they where fairly old). But the list just goes on. AMD or Intel whould be my choise, but I don't game on PC and I certainly don't use Windows.

iGPU can come a long way, but my laptop struggles with youtube a bit, because the iGPU doesn't support the video encoding. (i7 10th gen) It eats up a lot of the system in my opinion. I don't run FreeBSD on it, but this youtube "problem" is a hardware limitation.

External as in USB? No nothing like that, just mobo sound and pcie card.
I am currently using RX7600, but i can't seem to set it up to run xorg. Followed the Handbook to the letter and no screens found. So i'm guessing the card is not yet supported.

Yeah really not interested in iGPU setup.

I also have a 9070XT with similar issues, am wondering whether you experienced a crash or if it is just not working for you at high resolution. Am going to try the onboard GPU although mobo is recent so that might be unsupported.

I never to manage to make it work with amdgpu driver. So i bought RX7600 and now everything works
