System goes really really slow

For some reaon my system, ThinkPad W520 with 16GB RAM running FreeBSD 15.1 has suddenly become unusable slow.

Chrome does doe not start up at all.

Is there anything I can check to see what is going on.

TOP does not show any processes hogging CPU and there are very few of them.

What should I look at?
