Strange disk accesses after upgrading to 15.0

Hello all, I'm currently running FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE-p1.
Since upgrading from 14.3, there are audible disk accesses every few (5-8) seconds.

Did something change with ZFS or FreeBSD that would explain that?

I'm using the following pools:
root (nvme) - contains the os and jails
shared (nvme) - contains shared data
data (sata hdds, mirrored) - main data storage
backup_01, backup_03 (sata hdd) - backup disks

The problem stops when I spin down the disks in the data pool:
camcontrol standby /dev/ada0
camcontrol standby /dev/ada1

Isof does not list any open files in that pool.

Does anybody have any idea what might be going on there, or how I can track down the problem?

Thanks,
Thorsten

Hi,

Do you run some desktop environment like xfce for example? If so, something like gvfs might be running and accessing disks. I was opened a thread about gvfs recently and found the solution by not using the whole DE even though not very good solution.

Theoretically I'm running KDE - but that stopped working quite a while ago. I'll probably just uninstall it, to me it's not worth the hassle.

To my knowledge, this is not something that came in with 15.x I've experienced it on and off for a long time. The "timing" of it always felt related to something processing Transaction Groups (TXGs, or writes to the vdev), the issue talking about RRDs sounded reasonable.
