Starting at the command line

Greetings!

I've installed FreeBSD 11.1, and added the GNOME desktop, but would prefer to boot directly to the command line, upon startup, while keeping the option of typing startx and going into the gui, when needed. I believe that the file I need to adjust is /etc/rc.conf, but I didn't want to start cutting lines out until I got some advice/input. Any help that you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Have you read this (specifically near the end of that section)?

No, I hadn't. Thanks. I've got the manual on several devices, and have even printed out the entire manual and put a hard-copy into a D-ring binder. I'm going through it, but it will probably take me a while to get through all 703 pages. I understand that it's quite comprehensive, but I just got into FreeBSD about 2 weeks ago, and haven't made it that far, yet. I appreciate the patience. Thanks for pointing out that section.
