Solved [Solved] www.nl.freebsd.org dead?

What's up with this site, it seems it hasn't been updated in ages?

http://www.nl.freebsd.org/

There's also a bug report about it (#192425), but nothing is being done for months. Thing is, our hosting company support is linking to that site and thinking FreeBSD 10 is not yet out, so they shouldn't update their server images from 9.0 to 10.0 (or even 10.1 soon)... I mean, if there's no time or personnel to maintain that site, why not drop it, or redirect to main site like for example http://www.de.freebsd.org ...

Edit: marking solved.

Re: www.nl.freebsd.org dead?

Which is beside the point. There is a site out there, a mirror methinks? That people are looking up, making decisions based upon, and the site is severely wrong and outdated. If there's no manpower to maintain it, then just take it down or redirect to www.freebsd.org like other (mirrors?) are.

Re: www.nl.freebsd.org dead?

I've sent a message to Terantula who appear to be hosting it. Hopefully they can refresh the site or at least pass on the message to those responsible.

No wonder why many dedicated server hosts offer FreeBSD 9 but not 10.

If your company doesn't have to use the Dutch link, then tell them to point to the English version since it is always up to date.

Bug report 192425 is not specific enough to be useful.

You're kidding right? Taking a look at that page and seeing it showing FreeBSD-10-alpha as upcoming ain't specific enough? And I don't know if it was an official mirror or not, but it is publicly accessible, and was used, linked and quoted by one of the biggest hosting companies on the planet to tell me why they won't be doing FreeBSD 10 images just yet (until I managed to explain to them they were wrong).

But that's irrelevant now. The site has meanwhile been fixed and is showing the current state of http://www.freebsd.org. Thanks!

Re: www.nl.freebsd.org dead?

I'm not kidding. Mirrors are under the control of whoever runs them. If, however, something at the main FreeBSD site is wrong, like linking to an obsolete mirror, I can fix that.

Re: www.nl.freebsd.org dead?

I got a reply from Terantula. It was on their TODO list but forgot about it. It should be back in sync now.

Excellent, thanks!

I understand that. But this is *.freebsd.org. One would expect it is under control, or at least some rules are enforced by the Project or the Foundation (I don't know who has the actual authority over the mirrors and *.freebsd.org namespace).
