Solved [Solved] FreeBSD 10 sysinstall, nslookup

Hi all,

I just did a clean install of FreeBSD 10. This is just a server on an intranet, so I don't load a GUI. I noticed that command line tools like sysinstall and nslookup are no longer found. Where did they go?

They're gone. sysinstall(8) was already deprecated in 9.0 and completely removed in 10.0. nslookup(1) is part of BIND which is not included any more in the base system and was replaced by unbound(8).

Somewhere in the documentation, the tool drill, as a replacement fordig and host, as a replacement for nslookup, can be used, at least for some types of queries. To get the originals, you can install bind-tools

The host(1) command should still be available though, it's not part of BIND.

I believe that host is actually part of BIND and was also removed at the time, however in this case it was replaced with a new host command compiled out of /usr/src/contrib/ldns-host which is this: http://tx97.net/ldns-host/. It works mostly the same but I've noticed some small differences.
