Slop Free Software

I hope this topic is in some way useful. I am going to not post any further opinions on the matter myself. I find the topic to be too controversial. I respect everyone's opinions on the matter and hope that through further exploration and understanding of this topic that positive outcomes will be reached that will benefit everyone.

What? We need a decent flamewar here.

by poisoning the youth in public schools.
I agree with everything you say here. Liberal teachers will always be a thing but I think the push to put every kid in College was the problem.
The flunkies had VOTEC and then that got pushed aside for 'everybody goes to college' so lack of your skilled labor. Now incarcerated or gaming.
No more learning trades in High School.
Coding skills Yes. Robot making=YES. Plumbing and Electrical. No.

The downfall of our civilization was Sixth Grade Graduation Ceremonies. They need a graduation certificate now for Sixth Grade. Big ceremony for what?
Really kinda dumb but what parent could object?
Hey my kid graduated sixth grade! Wanna see the picture?

We are at the enlightened age?

I was speaking to young ABS inspector fresh out of the Maritime Academy @ SUNY and he mentioned to me that a cook on a MSC boat makes $120K+ a year.
There are still good avenues to learn a trade. Maritime field is wide open. Good for young folk. The sea is a mighty beast.
Good place to lose the AI addiction.

Some guy in my town was concerned because his 4-year old son didn't pass the test for the gifted program for kindergarten. He said he wanted his two kids to go to the same school. I'm wondering how that even happens.

I found out that some of the garbage men in my town make that much. Not the city drivers but the ones the city contracts out to or the ones that pick up at businesses.

Just thought I would update on my progress with NetBSD. I have to downgrade a GPU in one system to an RX 550. Luckily I have too many GPUs laying around. The newest GPU with accel is Polaris series. Nvidia are on nouveau. I'm not even going to try using Nvidia.

My most difficult system, Acer tablet/laptop, works well but had to disable i915drmkms in boot. But X and opengl work. Tested Urban Terror quake 3 game on the Z series baytrail iGPU.

Wifi drivers are not as up to date over on NetBSD. But they do have some good stuff for sure.

Dunno, seems like a legit system. They're just not as up to date on as many ports as other systems. But they have a good "AI" policy, which is super.

Other programs work fine as well though some are a bit behind in versions.

They could use some more devs over on NetBSD, just not "AI" devs. 😄

They also have many www browsers to choose from that are not Firefox or chrome "AI" slop.

Overall, good system, but I hope freebsd core policy will reflect a rejection of the "AI" when announced. I enjoy many of the drivers available on freebsd. And I like the community here. Everyone is very generous and knowledgeable.

Also the unitedbsd forums are very helpful. I asked a question of the NetBSD folks and had a helpful response within minutes, which is wild. 👍

Edit: I need to make a correction here. The RX 560 is the GPU I'll be using not the RX 550. I also have an RX 5700 XT but it's too big to fit in the case I'm using haha. I purchased the 5700 used and it had bad fans so modified it to use two 120MM Corsair fans which makes it very big.
Please keep this progress updated, tomorrow I will be install it..I used NetBSD before but this time beastie give me years of training :)

So I really like urban terror quake3 engine game and lmms. Both are in the package sources. I have done some testing with wine. 32bit wine9 works on a 32bit host but the latest 64bit has to be built from source and it's wine4 from what I have gathered from helpful users on unitedbsd com apache24 and php85 and other great tools are in the sources. I tested lxqt, mate and xfce4. The best experience has been with xfce4. Also Kate, filezilla are available and many browsers. Chrome/chromium are not available. I've not actually tested audio. My testing machine uses SDIO for much of the hardware. But I'm testing mostly package availability and functionality. Unlike freebsd and open Indiana the only Nvidia support is nouveau. Amdgpu support are cards from 2021 and older from the Polaris series but from what I can tell they don't include the 6400/6500 from 2022.

Edit: there is a wip for porting nvidia-freebsd but it's not a completed package, perhaps older versions were? Not sure going by the history. I'm not completely sure how exactly their processes work.

Edit 2: I guess for any additional updates I'll post them over on unitedbsd.com I don't want to use space on this forum for off topic/other operating systems. It's basically against the rules. So, no more from me on this thread.
