I don't think so. I personally don't mount proc, linproc nor fdesc anymore, and don't have any problem at all. But I know there are still a few apps out there that very much expect them mounted...

Pretty sure there are very few things on FreeBSD that require that. KDE or Gnome maybe but I have never seen a window manager with such requirements.

Probably Gnome does need it, but KDE doesn't. I can tell because Plasma is what I use as my daily desktop and I never mount proc and the like.
