Solved Running Kali-linux on bhyve

Just a note to others that might want to install Kali linux on a bhyve VM. Do NOT select KDE Plasma as the window system, go with the default Xfce. I tried an install with KDE Plasma, just to give it a try. Incredible amount of grief, including six hours with Google Gemini. Now Gemini helpful, without a doubt, but in the end I could not get it to reboot to VNC, just a vm console command.

I redid the install with the default Xfce manager and it was a snap, works great. And the vm-bhyve set of tools are great.
