Results from the 2025 FreeBSD survey

... are here:

Don't see them highlighted at the foundation web site, nor discussed here in the forum. People should read them; it's about 30 or 50 pages, and quite fast to digest.

Touches on all the great excessive-post topics in ways that are guaranteed to infuriate the "don't change FreeBSD" crowd.

What the heck is "Vorg," tho?

I can't believe it. They used an AI generated image of Beastie. I never thought it would come to this. Now I am seriously considering switching to Net/Open/Dragonfly BSD as anyone that lazy can't be trusted.

Is the AI fakery before or after the Foundation forced Rust into 15.x base?
Ugh. It is just an image that looks like it is AI generated. I was just mildly annoyed. And about the rust, I know it isn't coming in 15, but I am still nervous about the idea of rewriting stuff that doesnt need to be rewritten for no purpose.

The 6% desktop usage result on page 22 luckily should help to dampen the "break FreeBSD" crowd.
some of those percentages seem hard to believe
53% development way to high (only if that sometimes i start vi counts)
only 3% dhcp + vpn vs 53% firewall
only 2% dns vs > 30% other common services

Well, you still have that awful thread title up blaming the Foundation (who have nothing to do with Rust decisions) for Rust in 15.x. The 15 is in your thread title.

Oh yeah. But now a commenter on vermaden's blog mentioned it so it would be awkward if I change the title now, and that thread's kinda dead anyways.

They did? What a great idea! Then I don't have to manually install Rust. I love it.

P.S. You get to decide whether the line above is sarcasm or not. The answer is: both yes and no.

About this "Survey Beastie":
Beastie_Sur_rev.webp

Decopy AI says 0% probability that is AI, wasitAI is "quite confident that NO AI was used when producing this image", only sightengine is "Uncertain if AI-generated or not" at 39% probability that is AI (GPT-4o 37%, Firefly and Dall-E 1% each).

The way I suspected it was because of the tint, noise, and softness.
My guess: tint was mater of artist choice, or it got screwed with converting from one ICC to another. When working on bitmaps, you always want to use some (very little) of Gaussian Blur first, just to blend hard pixel edges with background, and then Add Noise - Monochromatic (also, very little) to hide that Blur. I was doing that since Photoshop 2.5
