Solved Raspberry Pi simple project

I'm trying to follow some of the guides here but am unclear which image I need for a Rasberry Pi 2 Model B V1.1...

I'm trying figuring out if I can pipe FreeBSD-11.2-RELEASE-arm-armv6-RPI2.img.xz this into dd after running gunzip, but it's not coming to me...

or use a USB Serial cable. Out of the box the RPI 3 B+ works perfectly fine @ 115200 bauds/second.

I've just installed it along with Midnight Cmmander which comes up in a sandy brown colour rather than blue.

It comes up normally on Raspbian. Any ideas?

Which pins do you connect?

Look for UART in the pinout : GND, RX, TX

For nactusberrilli: you are indeed right for the 12-CURRENT
images hyperlinked on your post above. I first tried 11.2 version
and then a different 12-CURRENT version (arm7), neither of
which worked on the Raspberry Pi, until using your advice.
Although it boots, there is one screen resolution issue - left
margin text-cutoff which is not resolved. Thanks again!

Changed the window-manager to x11-wm/openbox.

Also, using script logs when necessary to view console output
