Solved Quick backup and restore

In the process of finding ways to upgrade an existing 12.2-RELEASE to 13.1-RELEASE without the use of freebsd-update which I have found to be troublesome, I would like to try install the latest over the top of the older release and see if I break anything. In order to do this I would like to backup the existing system to another partition from which I could easily restore if necessary after booting from a separate boot partition.

What is the easiest way of copying one UFS partition to another? Is rsync() suitable?

Note to self.

Don't forget to change /etc/fstab in cloned partition otherwise cloned partition will boot original!!!
