Other Problems with Blu-ray media in 15.1

Upgraded a 15.0 system (x86_64) to 15.1 recently and found that its SATA Blu-ray writer (LG, vintage 2024) no longer worked with BD-R media.

This unit worked well in 15.0 with all sizes of Blu-ray disk. In 15.1, as soon as I insert a blank Blu-ray disk I see console errors:

Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): SCSI sense: ILLEGAL REQUEST asc:21,0 (Logical block address out of range)
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): Error 22, Unretryable error
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): cddone: got error 0x16 back
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): READ(10). CDB: 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): CAM status: SCSI Status Error
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): SCSI status: Check Condition
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): SCSI sense: ILLEGAL REQUEST asc:21,0 (Logical block address out of range)
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): Error 22, Unretryable error
Jul 22 15:25:00 eu kernel: (cd0:ahcich2:0:0:0): cddone: got error 0x16 back
(repeats)

Unsurprisingly, my reliable growisofs commands do not work. (write failed, Input/output error, medium format corrupt, etc)

I replaced drive and cables with known-good spares, tried a different controller port, different disks, but: same results.
The drive will mount a conventional CD-ROM disk without issue.

I did casual checking in the 15.1 errata, but didn't spot any likely explanations. Feels like I've missed some configuration change...
Any theories?
