about the documentation, it is actually documented in pkg-repository(5) in the mirror type section, I would be happy to patch with whatever suggestion that make it better understandable, or even make sure people know pkg-repository(5) actually exists.

and reading pkg.conf(5) and pkg-repository(5) there are numerous references to fetch(3) adding confusion what library is used and if references to libfetch are still valid ones.
