Presented with an unlocked screen after sleeping for long periods of time.

I've noticed on my laptop that if I leave the lid closed and let it sleep for extended periods of time, like days, it'll present the user with an unlocked screen.
I'm using FreeBSD 14.0-p3/p4.
Xfce 4.18.
xfce4-screensaver 4.18.2.
Anyone else experience any similar issues?
My laptop is a Lenovo T590.

I have no knowledge of Xfce, but does your screen usually lock? automatically?
i.e. screen saver and screen lock are usually two different, separately configurable, things.

afaik, the lock and screensaver settings are in the same application. I think xfce4-screensaver calls on xflock4 to lock the screen.
It always locks it, most of the time, whenever I close the lid or it times out. However, after some time from sleeping, it seems that it no longer locks. I have to log out and log back in for it to start locking again.
