A hacker recently used a zero-day-exploit of the Plone CMS and gained control of the fbi.gov web server.
Cyberzeist found that it was running FreeBSD 6.2.

Washington Post, New York Times and other mass media are probably not less lying and manipulating than RT.
There has been a comment of the purported hacker regarding the fake claims, see his twitter.
Let's see whether the guy comes forward with some embarrassing proof soon.
Given the way the US treat whistleblowers like Manning and Snowden, this would be a very risky thing to do, for sure.

Here we go again.

You are typing this today on an operating system (FreeBSD) designed in the evil US, and using a medium (Internet) created by the evil US. At night you're probably streaming Netflix which is an evil US company and if you're watching it on a Samsung or other South Korean electronics company's TV, it is because the evil US bore the brunt of the Korean War. And if you drive a Japanese car it is in part to the evil US rebuilding Japan after WWII.

The US also is the largest economy and consumer in the world which helps other countries economies. China wouldn't have much to export without the US.

The evil United States helps feed the world.

The evil United States creates most of the world's pharmaceuticals and the most research.

The evil United States gave the world stunning and amazing photos of Pluto.

Be grateful for the evil United States. Without her, the world would be worse off.

That said, this topic should be closed. I tried to abstain from posting but am so tired of these always popping up.
and you forgot for the nice book: Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

I'm a bit in between. Just because the FBI and Plone team now claim that this has to be fake doesn't automatically mean they're telling the truth. Bottom line, I don't know.

But back to the question at hand: FreeBSD 6.2. I voted it's common, risk is limited for the simple reason that if this story is real then it proved my point automatically. Surely it would have been much more rewarding to exploit a local root exploit of some sort, yet all this hacker allegedly got were credits from the CMS system, not the underlying OS.

The world should be thanking the United States of America for the CIA, DIA, NRO, NGIA, NSA, FBI, USAF, US Army, USN, USMC, State, USCG, DHS, Office of Naval Intelligence, 25th Air Force, ODNI, Marine Corps Intelligence, State Diplomatic Security, Coast Guard Intelligence.

Yes, indeed. The greatest country this world has ever seen. Think of that when you sleep soundly tonight. Without her Europe might have lost WWI; might have lost WWII and would have been burdened with Soviet control if not for the United States. The evil United States is certainly worse than Kim fatty the third in North Korea, worse than Chavez in Venezuela, worse than Castro in Cuba, worse than Stalin in the former USSR, worse than Pol Pot in Cambodia, worse than Mao in China.

Yes, indeed. Give thanks for the United States of America!

It's a great country, it has and had its faults in the past. Corruption will seep into anything great, because it is the nature of those who seek out anything good to abuse it for their own self interests. It's a cycle in most entities of good intentions countering bad intentions and vice versa. Still, the U.S. always had un-corrupted structures and institutions within it, and it was often seen as a beacon for liberties or justice around the world.

All of those organizations
CIA, DIA, NRO, NGIA, NSA, FBI, USAF, US Army, USN, USMC, State, USCG, DHS, Office of Naval Intelligence, 25th Air Force, ODNI, Marine Corps Intelligence, State Diplomatic Security, Coast Guard Intelligence.
are threatened now. The CIA did have corruption issues in the past, but recently, it seems that has changed for the good. Today, it is under threat of being corrupted again, but this time, externally.
