Apparently the source is available for the community edition, although I guess it is full of Linuxisms.

It says it can be integrated with Nextcloud. I don't know if anything else can. Maybe Collabra....

Collabora vs. Onlyoffice

Hello! Is there a general recommendation from nextcloud which online office should be used preferable? Collabora or OnlyOffice? best regards Patrick

I saw it with a glance: some friends installed NextCloud + OnlyOffice on a regular gaming PC from 2022. With more than 10 users, everything ran so slowly that they had to move everything to an expensive server with fast SSD drives and an HP RAID. This setup will only work well on powerful hardware.

I'd sooner have everyone with LibreOffice to a shared FTP NAS drive

I'd use Collabora (iirc their Android app was offered as a fork of LO before LO had a reader app).

Does NextCloud offer anything that can't be done with separate apps?

I use OnlyOffice regularly because it's integrated with an encrypted internet drive where I store backups and keep notes. I don't love it, but it's okay.

I think the idea of Nextcloud is to integrate apps within a single framework rather than using separate apps.

I'm only just exploring it at the moment but it looks like you can do so much under a Nextcloud umberella.

Nextcloud is an OK-ish solution, but Onlyoffice is trash - as others mentioned it is slow, clunky and tedious to work with. Just sync files via Nextcloud and edit them locally (e.g. LibreOffice).
