Number of created screens does not match number of detected

I was experiencing the same issue until I did the following:

  1. I installed the driver
  2. From the installer, I chose to automatically update Xorg file
  3. After multiple times the GUI failed to run, I went into the BIOS, clicked on the display or graphics section, and unchecked the box for Nvidia Optumus technology. I disabled it.

Nvidia Optimus technology only works with Windows and if you are on a Dell, I bet this is the problem.
