New Disk Problems

@derwood

Well, only if you want to have two of those for some other time, but it's a little overkill for just testing this out. It will work either way.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread - but with FreeBSD 9.0, with the exact same RocketRaid 622 card, and SansDigital 8 bay TRM, I am having the exact same performance issues.

Did you get this issue sorted out?

Siddartha,
Yes I did, but I had to buy a Silicon Image 3132 controller.. They are compatible with port multipliers. I got one that was non-raid and used ZFS to create a raidz pool.. Not only does it work reliably, but I easily get 6-700 mbps throughput with it on my network. One other bit of advice about the SansDigital enclosure. The esata cables they include are junk.. You will want to buy an extra set. I got mine from Cables To Go. The connectors on the cheap cables start to fall apart after a year.
Also, other Silicon Image chipsets will probably work well too. You just need to make sure that the chipset supports SATA port multipliers.

Avoid the Silicon Image 3114. For SATA II, the 3132 (two-port) and 3124 (four-port) both work with FreeBSD. siis(4) says they support port multipliers, but untested by me.
