Mizutamari and 15.0

Well, I am somewhat baffled here, which isn't all that unusual.

I recently rebuilt my daily-driver FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE desktop using KDE and have, in general, been quite happy with it all. However, I REALLY want to use Pegasus-Mail for my email client, having used that for at least the past 20 years or more.

I recently found Mizutamari, which I used, successfully, under FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE+ to install Pegasus-Mail. However, when I attempt to use Mizutamari under 15.0, and although Mizuma SAYS it is installing Pegasus-Mail, it, in fact, does NOT install anything. It properly downloads the Pegasus-Mail .exe file, and stores it, but it seems clear that WINE is really never installed either.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, what, if anything, were you able to do about it to make it work?

Thanks,

Ken Gordon

I don't know much about Pegasus, but doesn't it require 32-bit to install?
In 15.0R, i386 is no longer supported, so the i386 version of wine for 32-bit binaries will not be installed.

Yes. You are correct: Peggy uses 32-bit stuff.

Hmmm.....it is looking like I am going to have to drop back to the latest version of 14 and do a complete reinstall.

Dang.

I also will have to use another desktop than KDE. Maybe I'll try Lumina...

OK. I rebuilt my desktop using FreeBSD ver 14.3-RELEASE and have installed Lumina. I still cannot get Mizuma to install anything..

As I posted above, I re-installed a complete FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE system, and I will plan to stay with that until the issue of 32-bit software being handled by some sort of "work-around" can take place with later versions of FreeBSD.

I have been working, slowly, to configure a desktop on a system other than Windows that my wife and other members of my family can be comfortable using.

The only thing that had been preventing me from completely dumping Billy Gates' malware was that we have all been using Pegasus-Mail for our e-mail clients for many years and have found it to be unusually useful for us. We have tried many other clients and have found all of them wanting in some respect when compared with Pegasus.

As you can imagine, I have gained lots of practice installing a FreeBSD environment, and configuring a desktop, wireless connectivity, printers, scanners, etc, and can usually pretty much complete such a job within about 3 hours now.

And BOY! have I EVER made mistakes getting to this point!

I have a few tweaks left to do to my systems, but all are pretty minor. There are two remaining issues with our use of Pegasus: 1) I cannot yet print from within Pegasus, and 2) I have not yet figured out how to re-maximize Pegasus after minimizing it. When I minimize it, it just disappears, sometimes leaving a TINY little icon-like thing down on the "task bar" that when I click on it, permits me to send an email. But in order to get it back on the desktop, I have to reboot the system and then use Mizuma to relaunch it.

Oh, well. At least it is working.

I am going to install another HDD in both my wife's and all of our childrens' computers, and will then install FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE on all. The Lumina desktop will look enough like Window's desktop that my wife will have no trouble using it. The kids can figure it out easily enough.

And, as I have repeatedly stated, this forum is one of the very best, most polite, most knowledgeable forums I have ever been connected with.

Thanks,

Ken Gordon

That is not quite true. i386 version of *FreeBSD* is not supported but x86-64 FreeBSD certainly can run 32 bit binaries. After running "/usr/local/share/wine/pkg32.sh install wine mesa-dri" I see "~/.i386-wine-pkg/usr/local/bin/wine.bin".

That is not quite true.
It means the platform.
I thought people would understand without me having to write it down.
Edit: This means that the i386 version of wine pkg you want to install is not available.
I am using the 32-bit version of wine that I installed before upgrading to 15.0R.
