manipulate /etc auto master while upgrade

hm, I didn't get it. how come I do have to edit /etc/auto_master or rather how. I did not pay enough attention when my friend showed me 30 yrs ago... I guess that's why.

So I use 14.0 and a I did pkg free-bsd update upgrade -r 14.3-RELEASE...

I feel like fly ramming against the window-screen, pls get me out of this hell!

Hmm I am not sure what you are fighting here, but in case it's about how to edit configuration files during a minor or major update via freebsd-update then you should read the following thread it hopefully will guide you.

What am I supposed to do on this screen? It's showing my /etc/group file compared to the new version, correct? If I add my change to the new version it still complains.

Hey., you got me a step forward. I edited the auto_master and I was allowed to give
freebsd-update install. system sais: my secutity level is non-zero. hm. I guess I have to run bsd-config again. May I did something there..., ok, yes. So now it runs. thnx for the advice
 
This kind of conflicts in user-(admin-)editable files are mutually unavoidable until using current underlying tools (in this case, diff3) that are doing "line basis" comparison.
Field-basis tools would be wanted to avoid these, but maybe hard to implement (including how to get consensus between developers on implementations).
