Looking through lost+found I see lots of files which simply consist of binary zeroes.

How do I identify files which consist of binary zeroes?

Looks like quite a bit of wasted space.

You can use cmp(1) in combination with /dev/zero(4).​

printf '\0\0\0' > pagh
# -n : compare up to n bytes
cmp -n `stat -f '%z' pagh` pagh /dev/zero
# prints nothing, returns 0 [$? variable] if the same

This is of course horribly inefficient for sparse (“holed”) files, see lseek(2).​

I'd remove everything inside that directory. They're a result of a filesystem check finding issues, you can usually do absolutely nothing with those files.
