OK thank you, guys, for your efforts
. As for my story, I was just troubleshooting my IP phone connection to the SIP server. For that purpose the phone has this option to send messages to a syslog server. So far I've manged it with tcpdump on my gateway router.
Meantime, I've also installed sysutils/syslog-ng on my machine and it handles the stuff pretty well...
But then, I'll maybe give it a try with the code of ralphbsz when I have time for it. After all, that'll be something useful.
