KDE on FreeBSD 13.0 doesn't start at boot

Hi guys,

I followed this guide https://leonardcucos.com/how-to-install-freebsd-13-0-with-kde-plasma-5/ to install KDE but it doesn't start at boot so I need to login as root or normal user and with this I need to write "sudo startx".

How can I fix it?

Don't run startx as root or sudo startx, just run startx as a 'regular' user. Make sure things work, then install and enable x11/sddm.

I tried to do "startx" with my normal user but it starts "x" and not "kde" so I must use "sudo startx" with normal user to start KDE maybe I need to fix it before to go further...

Part of that guide is sysutils/desktop-installer. Did you follow that part? (If so, SDDM should be installed already.)

That's called twm, and is the default window manager of Xorg.

A file named ${HOME}/.xinitrc is used to 'select' the window manager or desktop environment you want to run with startx. For KDE it should have this:

exec ck-launch-session startplasma-x11

See Handbook: 5.7.2. KDE

Every daemons are ok:

pkg install -y kde5 sddm xorg
sysrc dbus_enable="YES" && service dbus start
sysrc sddm_enable="YES" && service sddm start

I followed all guides but I didn't understand what is wrong!

Ok I read in this post https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/xinitrc.50146/ I should create .xinitrc in my normal user home, I'll follow the post tomorrow at office!

You can do, although SDDM was enhanced to work without it:

I don't know whether it was up-streamed, I imagine not.
