SSL/TLS only encrypts the traffic between your client and the IRC server (or web server, or whatever else you connect to). It does NOT hide your IP address.

People are often so worried about "hiding your IP". I consider that to be similar to "hiding your residential address" or "hiding your phone number". Fact is, for almost everyone (at least in the western world), this is publicly accessible information anyway (sometimes with a few very low hurdles). If somebody wants to now, it's very easy to obtain compared to other information.

Don't get DDoS'd the same way that you don't get people ordering 200 pizzas to your home or leaving dog poop in front of your porch ever day: Don't give people a reason to - just as eternal_noob said.

loveydovey, without pretending to read wolffnx's mind, seems like he just would like to go on irc and chat. I imagine that someone who desires themselves to be tested on their security could probably find an irc channel for that (though I haven't looked). Like eternal_noob says above, be careful what you wish for. I'd think that no one wants to be hacked unless they've spent some time preparing for it.

Not trying to be nasty, but would you really want to be hacked by some strangers right now, without warning and suddenly you can't reach the Internet because you're being DDOSed? Or would you rather set up your system, then request a test by someone?

I think I'm over belaboring the point, but it seems to me the wolffnx just wants to get on irce and chat.

I say it very clear

I mean internarly, via some script or command via IRC client
/whois <nick> will tell you what information the IRC server has on you. It typically includes the IP address where you connected from. Everyone on IRC can issue this command.

Request penetration testing. Should there be a thread for that?
Yeah, no. Going to need some form of contract for that. A legal cover-my-ass.

What you're looking for is a cloak (it's an ircd feature meant for masking IP). Libera.chat, if that's the server you're on, is offering them. Apparently, from that documentation page, new accounts now have them automatically activated:

Accounts registered after March 2024 that have a verified email address are automatically assigned a generic user cloak

You can verify that either in the server log window, or in your join/leave message when joining/leaving a channel.

I search and find that disabling DCC hide your IP? anyway, I dont have a reazon to hide mi IP , my question was more oriented to some IRC command or something that someone can send to me, but I only want to simple chat
reading you guys I see that is safe

Generally #freebsd is relatively quiet though it will have around 700 people on. Keep in mind that many are just logged on and not watching, but in my experience, if you have a reasonable question, you'll get an answer fairly quickly.
