I haven't done this for a while, I admit.
But last week, I had to install FreeBSD 14.3 in a VM on ESXi 8.0 (p3, I assume).
I usually use the vmware-console fat client on Linux but the result was the same on Windows:
While the VM boots, I/O is very, very slow. To the point where the session would disconnect.
After I while, I asked the VMware admin to put the ISO on the datastore directly and connect it to the VM and everything went extremely fast.
Has anyone seen this?
Unfortunately, I don't have time and not enough rights to change the HBA etc to see if it makes a difference.
