Solved Installing FreeBSD 13.0 -Release

Hey all,

I am new and wanted to install FreeBSD alongside my Windows 10. Currently, there exists a Ubuntu partition as a dual boot that I want to override. Unfortunately, the ISO/Memstick image I downloaded does not boot.
I get the error:
/etc/hostid not found
and /etc/entropy not found.

I use UEFI and an older i5-3570k and a Nvidia GPU.

It is similar/same to this issue: FreeBSD vs.13 installation from bootable USB fails with 'can't find /etc/hostid' + 'can't find /boot/entropy'

The solution in this topic is to use a snapshot but the link is dead. I also kind of want a stable environment for my first steps with BSD and would be happy to use the RELEASE version of FreeBSD.

Can someone help me direct me on how to solve this?

👍

There will be no more snapshots of 13.0, because for 13.1 the release engineering process began a few weeks ago.

Was your download, yesterday, of -RC2 (release candidate 2)?

Release candidate 3 was announced a few hours after your post. Please be prepared to upgrade, as described in the announcement that's linked from <https://forums.freebsd.org/posts/563610>.
