Hello, total newb here.
I am trying to get into FreeBSD on my desktop, mainly as a learning experience.
During the installation process, I was not able to configure any network interface because FreeBSD doesn´t seem to ship with a driver for my Realtek 8125 2.5Gb/s ethernet controller.
First, I tried to use my phone (iPhone 13 w/ iOS 16.5, at time of writing the most up to date version) with USB tethering to get a network connection going so that I can install pkg and the realtek drivers. Unfortunately, this resulted in the same issue as described in this thread.
My next and partly successful attempt was downloading the pkg.pkg from here onto a USB memstick alongside the realtek drivers that I need to get my network connection going. Installing pkg from the USB memstick worked just fine, however installing the realtek driver did not work that well. I followed the advice given in this forum thread. Unfortunately, I am not able to retrieve the drivers from https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:13:amd64/latest/All/ since I am getting a 403 forbidden error both in the browser on my Windows installation and when using wget on my Linux installation. I am not able to download it using pkg since I do not have a single working FreeBSD machine with internet access. Then I proceeded using the driver directly from realtek , but trying to install it using pkg add <filename> results in an error telling me that the file is not a package.
Frankly, after 2 days of trying to troubleshoot the issue, I am out of ideas. As far as I can tell, my options are to either figure out how to get the proper realtek driver package without using an already operational FreeBSD machine, or somehow fix the USB tethering issue preventing me from using my mobile plan.
I´d greatly appreciate any assistance, otherwise my FreeBSD journey might end sooner than I hoped for.
