Important persons in your country.

It is an unfortunate fact that often the people who are most recognised and remembered are the theoreticians, because their work never goes out of date; the maths and logic guys who come up with the core principles. Boolean logic is the same now as it was 200 years ago. But it's the engineers, who put those ideas into practice and make them real, who actually change the world.

I think we have to add Ken Thompson, Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie, and probably a bunch of other bell labs guys, to that list too.

Absolutely; I completely agree. But it was the internet that allowed humans and systems to communicate on a global scale. For example, I'm able to chat with a relative from the opposite side of the planet due to the inventions from these two men. I can't thank them enough.

The heart is big enough to accomodate more than one country, and mine accomodates the whole Iberian peninsula and Iberian America. So-called ¨Latin America" is an investion by some Frenchman to make us believe the French colonies had the same culture when it's not the case.

Anyway here it goes a partial list:

It's not my field, but the people who worked on RF electronics and satellite comms is another related area that has made astonishing progress in our own times. Even more incredible to me is the fact that we are able to have bidirectional communication with spacecraft as far away as places like pluto, or even further out in the case of the voyager missions. The real distances involved are unimaginably vast on any terrestrial scale. I don't know the names of the people who worked on this, but clearly they have made a major contribution.

Bernard Lovell and Jodrell Bank was one of the pioneers.

I just discovered this gem. For all Z80 lovers... :)
And an open-source design of a Z80 clone, since Zilog stopped making them. Amazing.
