How to type | (pipe) in FreeBSD Single User Mode

Hello everyone, I'm currently working in FreeBSD's Single User Mode, but I can't type the | (pipe) symbol, which is quite unusual. I tried switching the keyboard layout from Spanish to English, but the issue persists.

By "can't type" do you mean you can't find it, or you can find it and it does not echo as a pipe?

On the standard US keyboards the pipe symbol is Shift-\ i.e. hold down the shift key, and type backslash -- which is generally located quite close to the "Return" key.

It may help to use the showkey(1) on all keys to see what characters your keyboard is sending (sudo pkg install showkey).

[In days of yore, the caret (^) symbol was an alternative for the pipe (|) symbol, but that was long ago...]

Keyboard layout can be changed with command kbdcontrol -l es (es in your case). The only key you need to know is where the character - is located on US keyboard, if I remenber italian and spanish keyboard layout are more or less the same, the - is the ? (<shift> + the key at right of the 0 zero key).
