How to maintain a port that was removed already?

Hello everyone!

I'm using FreeBSD for a few years already, but I've never maintained any port, so the question is probably a little dummy.

I want to become a maintainer of lang/swift, since I need it time by time and I'm an experienced Swift developer, so I at least know what is this and how it works.

But should I create and submit a new port or is it necessary to pull out the existing port somehow? If so, I obviously can't find it in my /usr/ports/ since this port was deleted a few years ago. I've read the manual pages and didn't find the answer to my question.

You could certainly start with a (partial) revert of this commit: https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/commit?id=fe6e400fbd9f45b19cca60365fea955e04c5005d

But in the end, it doesn't matter much. If you can provide a working port, it's certainly possible to add it to the tree again.

Okay, thank you for a quick reply. So I'll try to build the toolchain on my local FreeBSD machine and then submit it to the ports tree.

Well good luck! if you look at what was removed back then, it seems it's not a "simple" thing to port ...
