I want to set up two disks as a stripe, but I don't like the dual EFI and dual swap partitions of AutoZfs — I only want one of each. I tried creating two freebsd-zfs partitions in Manual and mounting both to /, but it failed.
It's been a very long time since I've done this and it has probably changed since then, but perhaps the zpool needs specific naming and mounting. I would guess that a manually created zpool should be mounted at /mnt trying to mount it at / I think would union mount on the install media
Need to actually read what I wrote. My understanding is if you manually create things, you need to mount it at /mnt before dropping back to the installer.
I said if you create things and then mount at / you are likely doing a union mount over the install media which by definition would be a bad thing.
Annalesa can you please post the exact commands you did to gpart and zpool create?
I've only every installed on ZFS once; and I'm still using that installation. I ran the installer from a flash drive and chose the option to create the filesystems manually from a shell. Once the shell is exited, the installer continues as normal.
