How often you check and install updates?

I think you missed "more frequently than daily", since I believe there are people checking for updates every ten minutes.

Usually, when I start FreeBSD, I check for updates. I use three systems simultaneously. And usually, when I start one of them, I check for new updates.
Totally different usage pattern. My FreeBSD and Linux systems at home are hardly ever "started", in the sense of booting the OS. That only happens when (a) there is a power outage and I intentionally turn the generators etc. off, or (b) they need hardware maintenance (which is very rare), or (c) I upgrade the OS.

Right now, my uptime is pretty miserably low: Main server 33 days (OS upgrade), generator monitoring machine 79 days (don't remember why), pump monitoring machine 1 day (I was working on the electrical wiring yesterday afternoon, and killed power for safety), cloud-based external server 131 days (don't remember why it was rebooted, too lazy to look in my logs).

I check for updates on FreeBSD quite frequently, roughly once a week. On Debian Linux machines, much more rarely, maybe every month or two, since there running updates is such a pain.
