Graphics driver for 2021 HP Pavillion 14?

So it's not like i didn't try before but i have compositing issues and other graphical issues , i have the intel iris xe IGPU and i wanna know if i can daily drive FreeBSD on my laptop atleast for productivity stuff like coding useless software and other stuff

i have dual booted freebsd with windows a couple of times and what i found out is that with the DEs/WMs is that when i turn off the compositing everything works smoothly else if i turn it back on then nothing works smoothly , there are other issues as well probably due to lack of intel iris xe support in the kernel

My answer is probably yes. I'm running 15-CURRENT on an HP 840 G5 business laptop with the HP Ultra Slim Docking Station. It works well in UEFI mode while in CSM mode the boot loader panics with a register dump.

I'd expect you'd have similar experience with a consumer HP laptop. It should work just as well in UEFI mode. It's best to try it first before buying.

i would be more than happy to give into the pain and try to contribute to FreeBSD, i have the 15-CURRENT iso downloaded so gonna make the bootable USB and dual boot that with windows and see about the stuff , the last time i tried to install freebsd was when the 14.3 release came out and i was surprised to see it auto detect my 5G network , back when i was dealing with 14.2 it was only detecting my 2G wifi and it was pretty slow but i found a bug also when i try to connect to my 5G wifi, i recieve a page fault and the whole installer crashes.....

i cant use ethernet on it because my laptop doesn't have the port and the router is far away from my room so i cannot use it with any external wire or wired connection so i have to rely on my WIFI

Sadly, newer laptops don't come with Ethernet ports. Even my employer's HP 840 G9, a newer model of my HP 840 G5, has no Ethernet port. One must use the USB-C Thunderbolt docking station to use Ethernet. Whereas my HP 840 G5 has an Ethernet port in the Ultra Slim docking station and in the laptop itself.

My wife's new Acer (I can't remember the model) that we bought her about a year or two ago also has no Ethernet port. Seems Ethernet has become a thing of the past in the consumer space and even with some business laptops.

I wired my last house with CAT6 Ethernet about 30 years ago and wired my current house, a 1913 vintage, also with CAT6 about 20 years ago. I will continue to use Ethernet because it's convenient for me. My wife uses one of the many WiFi networks I have here.

Ethernet is only available to servers nowadays , everyone are using those USB Wifi cards for their PCs also and ethernet is only available on gaming laptops from what i've seen , my friend brought an HP Omen for gaming and it got an ethernet port so he relies on ethernet for gaming stuff

The reason why im trying to migrate over to FreeBSD from Arch is because it's cool and i like it also, it feels good to use it , when i always want to give into FreeBSD i always get back to linux because of problems either related to wifi drivers or graphics but i wanna improve this now
