Gnome seems to mess up locale settings

Hello everyone,

this is something I originally posted in 'general' because I thought the settings in /etc/profile were having no effect.

Well, as it turns out now, they do, but only until Gnome comes into play :(

I find the following in /var/log/messages:

Code:
Mar 13 21:01:33 f_p4 gdm-simple-greeter[1433]: Gtk-WARNING: Locale not supported
by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Mar 13 21:01:33 f_p4 gdm-simple-greeter[1433]: WARNING: Failed to load '/share/x
ml/iso-codes/iso_639.xml': Datei \xc2\xbb/share/xml/iso-codes/iso_639.xml\xc2\xa
b konnte nicht ge\xc3\xb6ffnet werden: No such file or directory
Mar 13 21:01:33 f_p4 gdm-simple-greeter[1433]: WARNING: Failed to load '/share/x

xab konnte nicht ge\xc3\xb6ffnet werden: No such file or directory

Of course the files are where they should be, in /usr/local/share/xml/iso-codes

TIA,
Frank
