from old phone to new phone... / gafam conscious decisions and somesuch

and but so...
old phone died: screen smashed and battery charger dingle all rusted...
got new phone: chose after much debate a fairphone6 (with android straight from the shop, so not from the murena website)
ditched android and installed /e/OS (about 30min and 3 reboots)

so far so good.
trying to degooglize myself: use dav5x and my synology nas calendar and contactbook. /e/OS comes with a replacement for gmaps, however i'm using OSMAND~ with success (let's not forget i'm a forester and cartography and shit is a pro requirement ;))
no x, no facebook, no instagram, no whatsapp.
signal have a new "free backup cloud beta" which made the switch really painless (but yes, you always lose something to comfort...)

now for the email, that's tougher... i got a protonmail account but migration of people is sloooooooowwwwwww.

any experience here with this /e/OS? like, can i use it as i'd use a linux box or will i be stuck with no access to some files and shit? i'll install termux as soon as i have some time on my hands.
any "must have" apps?

yeah, it is off topic. in a sense.
however, i personally use freebsd as a political way of expressing the need for diversity, for resilience. i do not want a world with only apple, microsoft... and linux for that matter. same for web engines.
therefore here i am also looking at diversity (using /e/os instead of android, all these open-source apps instead of the big names...) and not only to get away from the gafam (even if it is surely a reason as well).
but if you feel that it is too off, feel free to remove.

Personally I'm interested in getting a Unix CLI on my phone again. Sadly termux is defunct on Pixel phones for a bunch of releases already.

absolutely, however it was a pain to be able to have access to the system... or i didn't dig into it enough.
for instance i coded a small ncurses interface for a LP database (in order not to buy twice the same record ;)) and it was not possible to write on the db for whatever reason. i have hopes about /e/OS for that.
i can keep you posted about my adventures.
also running a ssh server on the phone for easy file transfer from my freebsd box.
