fresh install of 14.3 (from 13.5)

Per a thread a couple of months ago, I had some issues installing an update on 13.5, so need to do a fresh install of 14.3 to make sure everything is good.

What will be different? I already have 14.3 on my virtual colo, so I need to know only for my physical hardware.

I saw that nvd[0-9] devices are now nda[0-9] devices. I also use re[01] devices. I guess those will be the same?
Anything else?

Also, I am debating zfs v. ufs. I have ufs now. I am not in a data intensive situation with my home server: The main drive will be only the system itself and my home directory, so I don't really need features. What do I really need to know to use zfs? Should I? With ufs, I feel like I know how it works....

I guess the main/only benefit of zfs would be to undo a bad update. Is that something I need to learn about in advance?

Also, if I do use zfs for the main drive, do I still add ufs drives to /etc/fstab as before? (now as e.g. nda1). These are backup drives, not at all usage intensive.

So which one is it? "fresh install of 14.3 (from 13.5)" - a fresh install of 14.3, or an upgrade from 13.5?

I think if you are happy with UFS, stick with it. I've got some systems on UFS, some on ZFS, and some with both (booting UFS, then ZFS for other drives). It's worth learning ZFS, especially with multiple drives, but think you want to experiment off to the side and get used to it first.

Are you using any graphics or sound hardware? Graphics drivers seem to be the main problematic area.

Don't forget to read ALL the upgrade notes - 14.0, 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3. And backups of anything important including config files.

I've upgraded a number of servers (so nothing special in terms of graphics hardware, or sound, or anything custom or niche) from 13.5 to 14.3, mix of UFS/ZFS, and no issues.

I am going to install 14.3 fresh, but my reference point (e.g. the config I will be trying to adapt) is from the current 13.5 system. So I am asking about what will change from that.

And yes, graphics drivers are what have caused me problems, so I am not doing any graphics this time. This machine will now simply be my home server & shell environment.

Thanks for the suggestion to read 14.1 & 14.2 notes. I did read 14.0 & 14.3.
