FreeBSD update/upgrade

When i used
sudo freebsd-update fetch
i got message:
freebsd-update is incompatible with the use of packaged base. Please see
https://wiki.freebsd.org/PkgBase for more information. So i must use only sudo pkg update/upgrade, and did my first command did something to my system? partially update FreeBSD, damage packages etc? (i am a bit paranoid lol)

If you are using package sets
then you dont need to use freebsd-update fetch anymore

did my first command did something to my system? partially update FreeBSD, damage packages etc? (i am a bit paranoid lol)

No it didnt do anything,
nothing to worry about

To update and upgrade just need to run

Code:
sudo pkg update
sudo pkg upgrade

Ok, im new to this system, and i must read FreeBSD Handbook (it wouldnt hurt xd), didnt want to bother you with this, but thanks for your reply.. i am calm again :DD This forum has such nice and helpfull people. Again thank you very much!

This looks very interesting, ill study it..i really need to collect more knowledge about this OS, and again thanks..for your time and good will:D

ok i get it now, somehow this package base upgrades seems simpler and more modern method..i give it a thought yesterday and i remember that in installation i selected (tech preview) packages. so this is why traditional method didnt worked..honestly i like this new one more:D ok i will reboot when kernel updates. But this will happen when 15.2 comes out if im not wrong? Till then i use just regular pkg update/upgrade?

Upgrading is another beast. When time will come (note that no upgrade is really needed until your current version becomes EOL), you will find precise (but somewhat complex) instructions in the "Installation instructions". You will find the link here: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/

Check the one for 15.1-RELEASE, so you will make an idea of the process.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can always use my tool for that: https://github.com/Emrion/pkgb-update

If you’re running any kind of kmods, be sure to upgrade the FreeBSD-ports-kmods repo also before rebooting. Other wise you might get stuck.

So the base is a separate repo? That's nice. (I still haven't upgrade from 14).
Be careful about that. If you do a pkg delete -fa that will also remove all of the base system files up until it gets to the point where it can't continue sort of a like a slightly less dangerous version of rm -rf / . Not that I've ever tried to remove all the pkgs on my system and had to spend time getting enough of them reinstalled to fix the rest.

I'm sure eventually, there will be some sort of an option to avoid that added, but AFAICT there isn't one at the moment.
