Solved freebsd-update insists on running

Why is this the default? I was never told about this. something has installed a freebsd-update run as a part of periodic daily 's security run.

Can someone tell me how to disable this?

well I ended up solving it by wildly deleting every occurrence of the words 'freebsd-update' in any file. I'm still not sure what was making it run.
 
Periodic scripts are run through periodic(8). You probably added it at some point in time, it's not something that's added automatically. Besides that, freebsd-update(8) only works on -RELEASE versions, you can't use it for -STABLE.
