Solved FreeBSD - unable to boot

Hey everyone,

I have a problem installing FreeBSD on my Hyper-V machine on Windows Server 2022.
After creating a virtual machine and trying to boot I'm getting a kernel error.
I also tried to copy a working .vhd FreeBSD installation, but ended up with the same error message.

Specs:
Windows Server 2022 Build 20348.681
Hyper-V Manager version: 10.0.20348.1
Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4314 CPU @ 2.40GHz
PERC H755

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What version of FreeBSD and how is the Hyper-V VM configured?

I'm using FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE.
I've tried 12.3, but I got the same issue.
This is the configuration I'm using.

Can't tell if the VM is 32 bit or not. You appear to be loading FreeBSD-13.0-RELEASE-amd64. If the VM is 32 bit but the FreeBSD image you used is for 64 bit then this would result in a crash too. Can't tell if that's the case here. But FreeBSD should be supported on Hyper-V:

The VM is 64bit, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I've tried to install FreeBSD-13.0-RELEASE on a different server with Windows Server 2022 (Build 20348.681) the same way and it works there.
The only difference between those servers is the CPU.
Could there be a compatibility problem?

Welcome to FreeBSD Forums.

I just tried to install FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE and this version seems to work fine.

When you're ready, you can add the Solved prefix.

Did the working environment have the same characteristics for the guest? In particular: how many virtual CPUs?
